David W. Teeter

After working in some of the most prestigious matrimonial firms in New York City and on Long Island, I left to form my own practice because I believed that I could do better. The large, well established firms thrive by charging extraordinarily high rates for the work of overworked associates. The associates are forced to jump from one client to the next as emergency phone calls and emails pour in, never able to focus on any given case long enough to develop a coherent strategy best suited to the needs of the individual client. If you have ever wondered why it takes hours or even days to get a phone call returned, it is because your attorney has too much to do to focus on you and your case.

My firm is dedicated to keeping a manageable caseload so that we have time to find the right course of action together. Using this model and with my background and experience, I believe we can achieve superior results

For over ten years I have handled all types of divorce and family law cases in Nassau and Suffolk Counties and in the courts in and around New York City. I have the experience to negotiate favorable settlements for my clients as I have in hundreds of cases. In cases where settlement is not possible for one reason or another, I will gladly take the case to trial.

While many divorce attorneys have limited trial experience, I started my career in criminal law where trials are routine. In my first two years of practice at the San Diego Public Defender’s Office, I tried over twenty cases. Later, I moved to New York and joined the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, where I was promoted to the Deputy Bureau Chief of the Felony Trial Division. Working for ten years in criminal law, gave me the opportunity to hone my trial skills which I now use for the benefit of my divorce and family law clients.

Often matrimonial cases present complex financial issues, whether tracing missing funds, determining the income of cash businesses or valuing businesses and advanced degrees. Because I have a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley in Mathematics and obtained my law degree from the University of California, Hastings, I enjoy the challenge these issues present. I work closely with expert forensic accountants and appraisers to make the best possible case for my clients.

While I cannot guarantee a specific result in a given case, I can guarantee that I will work closely with each client in order to provide exceptional representation in a difficult time.
